Amendments Affecting OPA 90 Introduced in U.S. Senate One to Change Tax Code One to End Limitation of Liability of Responsible Party

Senator Robert Menendez, D-NJ, has introduced Senate Bill No. 3756 on December 13, 2018. The purpose of the legislation is to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to require oil polluters to pay the full cost of oil spills, and for other purposes. The full text of the proposal is not yet available. The matter was referred to the Committee on Finance.

Similarly, Sen. Menendez, along with 15 Democratic co-sponsors, on the same day introduced Senate Bill 3757. The purpose of this legislation is to require “oil polluters to pay the full cost of oil spills, and for other purposes.”  The bill was referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works. At present the full text of the legislation is not available.
