Amendment to Jones Act Proposed for Aquaculture Workers

Republican Congressman Young of Alaska introduced House Resolution No. 4766 on Oct. 18, 2019 to exclude "aquaculture workers" from the provisions of the Jones Act. The Act, entitled the ‘‘Shellfish Aquaculture Improvement Act of 2019’’ would amend Title 46, Sec. 30104 to exclude aquaculture workers from the term "seamen" if State workers’ compensation is available to the worker. The proposal further defines the term "aquaculture worker." The bill has been referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and to the Committee on the Judiciary.
