Three Gulf Coast Shipbuilders Awarded

Coast Guard Contracts for Study of Heavy Duty Polar Icebreakers

The U.S. Coast Guard announced on February 22, 2017 that it awarded 5 contracts to various shipbuilders to construct icebreakers including three from Louisiana and Mississippi. The contracts are for heavy polar icebreaker design studies and analysis. As announced in the bulletin, “[t]he objective of the studies are to identify design and systems approaches to reduce acquisition cost and production timelines.” The companies in Louisiana and Mississippi include Bollinger Shipyards, LLC, in Lockport, Louisiana, Huntington Ingalls, Inc., of Pascagoula, Mississippi; and VT Halter Marine, Inc., also located in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
