To Infinity and Beyond: LMLJ Announces Expansion to Include Air and Space Law

Dear Candidates, Members, and Supporters of the Loyola Maritime Law Journal,Since our inception in 2002 under the guidance of Robert Guidry, the Loyola Maritime Law Journal has published articles, student comments, and case notes that provide the legal and academic community with a scholarly perspective on the issues facing a diverse and international industry in maritime law. In addition to our accomplishments with the journal, under the leadership of our former editor-in-chief Jordan McFaull, we launched the Loyola Current – a blog written and edited by members of the journal for the purpose of providing maritime attorneys with a concise statement of emerging issues in maritime law through news updates. For the last fifteen years, the Loyola Maritime Law Journal has aimed to keep pace with the changes in maritime law.Maritime law is a diverse and international industry. As modern technology develops, our methods of transportation and exploration have advanced far beyond what was considered possible not that long ago. Now, instead of taking a vessel to an offshore location, workers are transported by helicopter to work on platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, as well as other offshore locations in the world. Cargo planes as well as vessels carry packages around the world – the way we explore the world and the way we live in it has changed. In the not too distant future, drones may deliver orders to consumers’ doorsteps. The modern foundation of maritime law derives from international treaties, agreements, and common law doctrines. Unsurprisingly, other areas of law concerning transportation are international in origin. These areas include the fields of aviation law and the newly emerging field of space law. Heading to space has been a reality for decades and modern transportation is changing. Therefore, we at the Loyola Maritime Law Journal are excited to announce that we are broadening our horizons and will now be accepting submissions in the fields of aviation and space law. With this expansion, The Loyola Maritime Law Journal hopes to be at the forefront of maritime, aviation, and space law not only in the United States but across the globe. We are excited to launch Loyola University New Orleans College of Law into the future and we hope that you will join us on this journey.Sincerely,Ainsley Davidson FaganEditor-in-Chief 2017-2018To see a PDF of our announcement, please follow this link: LMJL Expansion Announcement
