BSEE Publishes Final Rule For Well Control and Blowout Preventer Systems

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement published its final rule for Well Control and Blowout Preventer systems on May 15, 2019.  This rule revises the requirements for well design, well control, casing, cementing, real-time monitoring (RTM), and subsea containment. As stated in the final notice, BSEE will amend, revise, or remove certain current regulatory provisions that create unnecessary burdens on stakeholders while still maintaining safety and environmental protection. The final rule is effective as of July 15, 2019. Certain provisions will be deferred (Section II of the preamble).
